Tuesday Road Trip ~ North Carolina

Welcome to another fun and safe road trip, courtesy "CIA Factbook" 2013-2014 and Toluna Tours.

Today we will be visiting Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina - abbreviated N.C. As we set out a 10:10 a.m. it is 53 degrees and sunny and will be a high of 70 degrees, so it will be a nice trip.

Known as "the tar heel state", North Carolina, the lower part of the English colony of Carolina, was named in honor of Charles I of England.

At 53,819 square miles it is home to 9,848,060 residents. It became the 12th state on November 21, 1789 and adopted the motto: "To Be Rather Than To Seem".

The Southern Pine is their state tree and the Flowering Dogwood is their state flower. The cardinal is their state bird.

On the radio now is: "The Old North State" by William Gaston.

Right now we are passing the Mechanics and Farmers bank, established in 1908. It is the oldest African-American owned bank in North Carolina and in the 1920's it saved more that 500 African- American farms and residences when it provided $200,000 in individual loans.

Have you ever visited North Carolina?

I have not.

I hope you had a fun trip and I hope to see you again next week. Until then, please stay healthy & safe!

Have a blessed day!

Wow, that was fun! I have been to NC several times: Corolla, Duck, Nags Head, Ocracoke Island, Kitty Hawk, Gaston Lake, and driven through many cities when driving through the state on our way to Florida. Always had nice time when vacationing there. Reply

Numerous times. My husband and I lived in NC for a few years and I have several close relatives that live there. We visit the NC mountains just about every fall and make several other trips there every year and have done so since I was knee high to a grasshopper :-) Reply

Thanks for this interesting post about North Carolina. Many years ago, I stayed in a mountain resort, more than once, in the Smoky Mountains around Murphy, NC. It was a beautiful area and I loved it. I would like to go back to NC and visit the Biltmore Estates. Visiting anywhere in NC would be fine with me! Reply
