Are you fond of Ukay-Ukay? Is it safe to buy a secondhand clothes?
Closed

Ukay-ukay is a store in Philippines where secondhand items such as clothes, bag, shoes, accessories etc are sold in cheap price. Ukay-ukay cames from the word "hukay" or "halukay" or to dig. Some of us are fond of ukay-ukay because you can have a branded clothes with an affordable price. But sometimes the price is a bit high when its new arrival so we are waiting for a couple of weeks for the discounts. But do you think is it safe to buy a secondhand clothes? There's a rumor that those secondhand clothes came from morgue, from corpse who died in the hospital and from people who throw away their old clothes. And some are overruns and surplus from clothes retailer.
According to experts secondhand clothes may cause skin disease and allergies because of the dustmites found in the clothes and the chemical that are used to preserve the clothes.

As I watched the vlog of an actress Heart Evangelista. She made ritual to cleanse the ukay ukay clothes she bought. All I know is wash the clothes I buy before wearing it but on her she sprayed disinfectant and a holy water. Because she believes that some of secondhand items are possess by bad spirit. I was surprised but I realized she is right on her belief because we never knew where this ukay ukay clothes came from and who is the first owner.
So before wearing those items make sure we cleanse it to eliminate the bacteria, viruses and of course bad spirits.
